As per announced by Ministry of Manpower (MOM), the Marine Sector’s Dependency Ratio Ceiling (DRC) for work permit / S Pass holders will be reduced from 1 local to 5 Foreign workers ( 83.3%), to 1 local to 4.5 Foreign workers (81.8%) effective since 1st Jan 2016.
This was announced in Budget 2013 to moderate demand for foreign manpower. If your company do not employ enough local to support your foreign workforce under the new DRC, your company will not allowed to keep the additional workers.
Therefore, do plan ahead to keep your foreign workforce within the reduce DRC. You may recruit more locals, or identify which Work Permit or S Pass holder to let go before 1 Jan 2016, otherwise MOM may have to revoke some work passes so that you can comply with the revised DRC.
